New Look has been a firm favourite for a long time! I remember that one of the very first “must-have” fashion item when I was in Secondary school was a felted black trench coat from New Look. It had a belt you could tie around the waist, and it was such a flattering fit and looked chic! And then there was another time when all of my friends bought these cool New Look hipster trousers (“hipsters” had a different meaning to us back then – but basically, they were just a bootleg fit) and I rushed out to buy a couple of pairs for myself! I ended up ditching the dowdy old school clothes to buy all of my uniform from New Look! So it’s thanks to them that I was somewhat fashionable at school!
New Look has been a my go-to ever since because it’s a brand that has stayed true to itself and in return, customers have stayed loyal. A recent trip to their flagship store on Oxford Circus introduced me to their new Autumn/Winter range. The key trends this season are:
Mod Girl: 60’s style inspired A-Line skirts are a huge trend this A/W. New Look has added a contemporary twist to this trend by using woollen fabrics, softer colours and unusual textures.
Go West: Think rich colours, geometric prints and masculine shapes mixed with denim, furs and leather. This trend offers kimonos, patchwork blanket wraps, and tough boots!
Utility: This comes round every season and this year, New Look has gone for a contrast between feminine edge and use of metal ware such as exposed chunky zips and poppers.
Boho Luxe: Usually a huge look for Summer, Boho Luxe has extended for the colder season. The red and brown tones make it feel more Autumnal, but floral kimonos, maxi dresses and beaded tops are the key items in this collection. Pretty perfect for an Indian Summer.
I was allowed to pick a whole new outfit for the new season but I decided to go for what I like as opposed to following a trend. I tried on loads of tops but in the end, I decided to play it safe with the good old heart-print shirt. I also picked a fresh pair of black skinny jeans and a beautiful pair of burgundy cut-out ankle boots which I have been wearing non-stop since I got them! The extensive shoe range at New Look makes my heart beat faster, and I must admit, when I went up to the shoe floor, I had a ‘Carrie Bradshaw’ moment! I held eight pairs of footwear in my arms, sat down in a quiet corner and tried them all on!
The coat was important as I buy only one coat per year and it has to be stylish yet versatile because I’ll be wearing it every day for the next 6 months! There are so many nice coats in New Look (as always!) and I had my eye on something colourful but I gravitated towards an oversized grey blazer because I had to remember that it’s got to go with my blouse, jeans and ankle boots! The blazer is quite a different style for me because it’s a masculine and boxy shape but change is always good, and I’m a fan of the androgynous style anyway!
Last but not least, choosing a bag to go with this outfit was harder than I thought! I picked up a handbag but it made the whole outfit look too mature so I grabbed a rucksack which I think looks pretty cool. After watching Clueless a few times last week, I had been wanting a little 90’s style rucksack! It is another item that I’ve been wearing a lot since I got it! In addition to the pics above, check out the Instagram video of the outfit too!
With hundreds of new styles landing in store and online each week, you can always count on New Look to bring you the latest trends straight from the catwalk and into your wardrobe. For more tips and trends follow @newlookfashion and shop the new season at newlook.com.

  1. I absolutely love this outfit! I really want this jacket, I don't buy them often but this looks gorgeous. There's a jacket in New Look that I've had my eye on but it's bright red and I'm not sure how much wear I'd get out of it so I think I'd be a bit safer going for something like this beauty! x
