This top is from the beachwear range at Ted Baker (via ASOS) and it’s actually a playsuit tunic that you’d wear on the beach as a bikini cover-up. As I am not on the beach (sadly, currently no where near it!), I had to think of another way to style it. When I saw a picture of it, my initial thoughts were “nope, no way, I’m not going to wear this as it is. Not in the England countryside. I’m going to try and make it work in a different way…somehow!” I put my fashion blogger cap on and transformed the chiffon playsuit in to a top!
With the theme of ‘holiday’ that was given to me by ASOS, for this outfit I imagined myself on holiday in California. I’ve never been, but I would LOVE to go one day. For now, I will stalk all instagram photos in the #california hashtag and dream from afar! I’m pretty sure that if I did go to California, I wouldn’t be packing a thick leather jacket in my suitcase, but one thing I always wondered was how Californians can wear leather jackets in such hot weather. Two people that come to mind is Audrina and Justin Bobby from The Hills (totally irelevant and not really that famous, but I still love that show!) When I was browsing through LA street style photos or most recently, Coachella style pics, you’ll always see people wearing a leather jacket (in contrast to those at the same festival wearing bikini tops and shorts). Anyway, that is where I went to for the outfit inspiration from when I styled this look for ASOS.
Since I’m not in a sunny country (C’mon, UK! Give us the Spring we deserve! Pretty please!) and I’m rather attached to my leather jacket, it’s coming with me where ever I go! It isn’t hot enough to go out in denim shorts with no tights (and I know I need to get a bottle of the ol’ St. Tropez!) but this outfit goes to show that when you’re done with your beachwear from past holidays, you can get more wear out of it by wearing them to adapt to the British Summer – where a leather jacket is most certainly (probably) a staple piece! All year round!
With accessories, I’ve kept it fairly simple here. No statement jewellery here. I don’t tend to wear jewellery when I’m holiday, at least nothing chunky or heavy. A floppy hat never goes amiss, a pastel bag will always be my number one summer accessory and an adorable necklace to complete the outfit. The necklace I am wearing here is from Love Hearts And Crosses, a brand that I have felt close to for a long time! I love the Origami jewellery collection because I used to do a lot of Origami when I was younger (geeky fact about me)! The pendant on my necklace is a rabbit, and it arrived through the post during Easter. It’s really cute and if you like quirky jewellery, I urge you to have a look at Love Hearts And Crosses! Nowwww! 🙂
