I haven’t made a secret of not being a fan of Christmas and I’ve planned in so many things this month to try and get that festive feeling. A week before Christmas and I think I’m starting to feel a little something for it, thanks to a trip to Santa’s Rooftop Cinema at Fenwick in Newcastle.

Since November, Fenwicks have opened their 5th floor to the public for the first time this year. They have transformed the 5th floor in to a magical Christmas experience. You arrive at the secret entrance where an elf will come to welcome you. You can choose between Santa On The Rooftop (£11.50 per person) or Santa’s Rooftop Cinema (£6.95). The latter – the pop-up cinema – of which I got to experience recently and is an experience that’s guaranteed to warm the coldest of Scrooge’s like myself.

Without giving too much away incase there are some of you who’s yet to go, but the secret entrance is all decked out as an elves workshop.

You’re taken in to an elevator which goes up to the rooftop where the pop-up cinema is located. In sponsorship with Barbour, is showing The Snowman on a regular interval – it’s perfect for children but adults alike. After all, there comes a time when you become to old for the grotto, so the pop-up cinema experience where a mulled wine (or a non-alcoholic warm spiced apple) and popcorn is included in your ticket, is completely brilliant for grown ups to enjoy.

There has been other screenings such as Home Alone, Love Actually, It’s A Wonderful Life to name a few, but the main feature is The Snowman. As it’s bought to you by Barbour, you can expect some of the Barbour touch here and there.

It’s not too late to book your tickets, you’ll get it in at the nick of time. But be quick because the pop-up won’t be here for much longer. Here’s hoping that the 5th floor of Fenwicks will be used as a space to offer more imaginative experiences…
