Current Beauty Faves (+ GIVEAWAY)

How sad is it that Summer is over? Technically, Summer ends on the 23rd – maybe we can drag it out until the clocks go back in October? That’s pushing it, isn’t it?

I’ve had the best Summer, maybe I’ll blog about it soon. I’m struggling so much with time at the moment. It doesn’t help that the photos on my new laptop is just dumped in random folders and I can’t bear to sort through them.

Once I’m not so anxious about my commute to work at my new job, I’ll take my laptop with me and do some blogging (and photo archiving) on the train! For now, I’ll find time on the weekends to catch up with my favourite blog and write up my beauty reviews – I have loads of them lined up, so I thought I’d start the month with a bundle of current beauty faves!

Mavala

I love nail polish, and I’ve been wearing these shades on rotation every since I got them. I haven’t tried the white yet, I’m all for bold nails but I’m not quite ready for white. It will come in handy for nail art, or a trick to make the coloured shades “pop” is to apply an undercoat of white before the colour. I’ll give that a try and report back!

I love the red (Madrid), pink (Freshy), and burgundy (Velvet Prune) though. Those shades are right up my street! The red lasts the longest without chipping – I had it on for a week and it hadn’t chipped at all. The burgundy was slightly weak in it’s longevity as it started to fade off my nails after 4 days and flaked off after 7 days, so now I know to apply a good quality top coat to make it last longer.

The formula itself is easy to apply, even application, non-streaky, and opaque enough to require only two coats.

Carmex

I have such dry lips, so I have to have lip balm with me wherever I go. And because I wear lipstick every week day, I need lip balm to ensure the application is as smooth as possible. Lip balm helps to prime as well as seal the colour (unless I’m using a matte lipstick, which is rare).

I panic when I look in my bag and can’t find one in the inner zip compartment, so what I’ve done recently is bought them in batch and make sure there’s at least two in every handbag!

Because I’ve tried sooo many lip balms, I’ve become a bit of an expert on which ones are good and which ones to stay away from. I love Burt’s Bees, Blistex, and now Carmex. I don’t get on well with certain lip balms from the Carmex range, usually the stick version. I don’t know whether the formula even varies or whether it’s psychological but I definitely prefer the tube and jars over the stick balms.

Carmex have launched a new Watermelon scented lip balm and I believe there’s also a pineapple scented one too! The watermelon smells lovely, it’s fruity, sweet, with a hint of mint (don’t ask me how it taste because I try not to purposely ingest lip product, the thought of it freaks me out). It’s relieves dry lips and makes them look healthy again.

Image Skincare

I love any skincare that contains Vitamin C, it helps to give my skin a boost in radiance but it also helps to calm down any redness. I’ve been using Image Skincare’s Vital C Hydrating Facial Cleanser which a cream formula, coupled with the “matching” Vital C Hydrating ACE serum.

Using the correct type of cleanser to suit your skin type is the key and cream cleansers have always been the one for me, but my secret to youthful, healthy looking skin lies within a quality serum. Vital C Hydrating ACE serum is a bottle of wonders which features vitamins A, C, and E to help with dehydration, acne, redness, rosacea, and aging. It smells a bit like oat as opposed to orange but it’s a pleasant scent.

Tropic Hair kit (giveaway)

Tropic have recently launched a new hair care collection and I’m giving you the chance to win a travel set! As with all Tropic products, it’s free from harsh chemicals, potentially harmful ingredients such as paragons, and in this case, free from SLS and silicones.

The gentle formula won’t strip your hair or leave it feeling heavy. But the key, like with most shampoos, is to take care of your scalp. A healthy scalp equals healthy hair!

The kit that I’m giving away includes:

  • Nourishing Hair Cleanser
  • Clarifying Hair Wash
  • Hair Feast Deep Conditioning Treatment
  • Hair Smooth Radiance Oil
  • And a Scalp Massager
