Sprinkle happiness. Sprinkle all around and kick start 2017 on the right foot. Sounds good to me!
Birchbox has acknowledged that their lovely beauty subscription box may be the only nice treat someone might get this January. So for the latest edition edition, they have designed a vibrant, bright yellow box with lots of bright, inspirational ideas to help make this month a positive one. I love it and it actually ties in with another blogpost that I am working on at the moment.
As well as the usual beauty products, if you’ve
signed up for Birchbox this month, you will receive a few ideas for how to keep happy through a tough and dreary month. I hope you don’t mind but before I move on to the beauty samples, I would love pick out some of these tips and reflect on what I am doing for myself to stay happy at a difficult time of year.
5 Way To Sprinkle Happiness
1. Create a ‘Positivity Playlist’ for an upbeat start to a less-than-sunny days
You’d think that having lived in England all of my 31 years of life (coming up 32 in 4 weeks time. OMFG), I would be used to those less-than-sunny days. But the miserably, rainy, freezing cold days doesn’t get any easier.
Not only does this puts a downer on my mood, it also effects my work. I rely solely on natural day light to take those all important blog photos whether it be beauty products or personal style outfits. And when I can’t get these jobs ticked off my to-do list, I beat myself up about it… even when it’s completely out of my control.
But Birchbox are right; a kick-ass, positive playlist will help me snap out of it. What songs would be on your playlist? My playlist would definitely include: Stevie Wonder’s Sir Duke and Cheryl Lynn’s Got To Be Real
2. Take 10 minutes to get to grips with meditation
I’ve been really open minded towards meditation in the past year. Whenever I feel stressed, panicked, and anxious, I just put a meditation YouTube video on and it helps me calm to down. Sometimes it relaxes me so much that I actually fall asleep! There’s also a great app called Harmony Hypnosis with lots of mediation and hypnotherapy audio on it.
3. Be a tourist in your town
I honestly think that the town that I currently live in really doesn’t offer much but
the town where I grew up in is a totally different story (and you can see from that blogpost why I love it so much). Even though it’s an old Georgian town in Yorkshire, it’s ever-changing and I love exploring.

Do something nice for someone else
This doesn’t have to be a grand gesture, it doesn’t even have to cost you a penny. It could be asking a colleague if they want a cup of tea, or giving a stranger a compliment, leave a nice note in a library book, comment on someone’s Facebook post (instead of just stalking), comment on a blogger’s new pos, or share your lunch break with a homeless person. You will honestly feel so much better and so will the other person. LOVE IS ALL AROUND.
Keep in touch
I don’t have a huge group of friends so I value the people I have in my life. I have, in the past when I was younger, neglected some friendships and lost touch. But I’ve always been the one to reach out to them, to make the first move with a catch-up email or Facebook message. Everyone is so busy with their own lives but it never fails to cheer me up than seeing a message from an old friend – not matter the situation.
What’s Inside Birchbox in January 2017?
From 5 happiness inspo to 5 beauty products to try this January! What a great way to start the year!
Whish Shaving Cream
If you find your regular shaving cream too drying on skin, switch to Whish shaving cream! With shea butter and coconut oil, it’s non-foaming formula promises to moisturise skin.
Merci Handy Hand Cream
Merci Handy is a French brand that aims to keep you fresh. I first heard of this brand via Birchbox in August and I am keen to try this hand cream (one of my winter essentials, for sure!). I absolutely hate dry hands so I always have a tube of cream in my handbag. Merci Handy Hand Cream is packed with tiny pearls and nourishing extracts, and it smells soooooo good! I can’t find out what the scent is, it doesn’t say on their website, but it’s like a candy, fruity, vanilla fragrance (worst description of a scent ever – I’m sorry!)
Lord & Berry Conceal-It Crayon
As this is in crayon form, I initially though it might be quite waxy but I can confirm that the product itself is very creamy. The shade is too pale for me to use as concealer but a tip from Birchbox is that Conceal-It can also be used as a matte highlighter.
Nuxe Multi-Usage Dry Oil Shimmer
Well, HELLO OLD FRIEND. I say this every time this product pops up in beauty subscription box – and that’s A LOT – but apparently, this is the first time the shimmer version has been included in Birchbox.
It’s a fab product but I would be extremely happy if I never see it again (only because I have a stash of it and I never really use it). It’s a multi-use dry oil formulated with vitamin E and six essential oils and can be used on skin and hair.
Nails Inc. Chelsea Square
Miniature nail polishes are so cute, especially when they’re glittery! I received Nails Inc. Chelsea Square which is a full coverage pink glitter polish. I don’t normally wear glitter polishes because I hate how difficult it is to remove but it’s very nice to have a bit of sparkle to prolong the festive vibe throughout January! I wouldn’t say no to a bit of sparkle at this time of year!
Such a nice selection of products in this months box. I really like the look of the polish.
