This perfume was just the pick-me-up treat I needed over the weekend. Recovering from a stupid cold (it’s so stupid), the only thing that (temporarily) got me out of my fluffy dressing gown and into some ‘proper’ clothes was the short walk to the letter box located on the ground floor of of the apartment block.
I received a bunch of exciting post of which you will see on the blog in the coming weeks. I try not to play favourites with all the lovely things that gets delivered to me, but I got pretty excited to see a surprise black parcel with the Yves Saint Laurent logo on it.
What could it beeeee?….
YSL Black Opium Collector Edition
Firstly, can we just take a moment to appreciate how much this whole post goes with my new(ish) monochrome blog design switch up?
YSL’s Black Opium Collector Edition has extra sparkles added for the festive season. The updated design which is available exclusively at Boots nationwide has a good sprinkle of gold and silver glitter on the upper half of the bottle and carton.
As my sense of smell has started to return, I can smell this perfume properly! Described as ‘oriental’ (ah, the penny has just dropped as to why their TV ad was shot in Shanghai), but being oriental asian, it’s not a scent that I would typically associate with that part of the world. However, I would most definitely agree with their other description ‘glam rock’. It is definitely that.
The fragrance is sexy with an edge and sassy with the buzz of coffee (the highest dose of coffee bean accord in a feminine fragrance ever) softened by jasmine, orange blossom absolute, cedar, patchouli, and vanilla – giving the scent an overall light and floral aroma.
My favourite thing about it is the coffee. It is the first fragrance note to reach your nose, but only if you were to look for it. It’s a nice surprise and unlike any other perfume in my collection.
