What would YOU pick?
Recently I was allowed to choose any two items of make up from House Of Fraser. With thousands of make up to choose from in the House of Fraser beauty department, I literally had no where to begin. But browsing and adding it to a virtual basket is part of the fun, right?
Obviously, I wanted to use this opportunity to select a make up product that I’ve wanted to try and something that’s been on my beauty wishlist for ages. What must-have product have the beauty bloggers been raving these days?
I narrowed it down to the two following products: A Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation (a beauty blogger’s favourite), and Lancome Shine Lover Lip Stick. The foundation is somewhat of a cult classic because everyone always talks about how amazing Laura Mercier base products are, so it’s my turn to see what all the fuss is about.
Everyone always raves about the Laura Mercier Silk Creme foundations. This liquid foundation describes itself as a ‘photo-ready, natural matte finish which is ideal for video, photography, and special events’. PERFECT! And it’s oil-free. Bonus!
If your skin type is on the oilier side, this is, for sure, worth a go. Otherwise opt for the Moisturizing formula. I don’t actually have an oily skin type, but I think the logic behind my choice to lean towards oil-free formula over moisturising was that my face is going to be shiny on sweltering hot days, so maybe an oil-free foundation would help control my skin from looking a bit glazed (ie. sweaty!).
I chose it in shade Ivory but if I was to repurchase this, I may go one shade darker because Ivory is a smidge too pale for me. The coverage is medium to full, so it is not as sheer as I’d like for this time of year. However, for a matte foundation, it doesn’t feel heavy on skin.
I panicked at first because the swatch on my hand seemed kind of chalky. When I applied the foundation directly on to my face, it highlighted the flaws on my chin area which I had little pimples.
Thankfully, after a short while, the matte finish foundation worked with the natural oils on my face and the results looked nice and natural, and I was really happy with how it looked throughout the day. I see what they mean now when they describe the foundation as a ‘natural matte finish’. Even the problem area around my chin appeared to have evened out too.
Lancome Shine Lover in Amuse Bouche* (£22)
I used a certain Lancome lipstick when I was a bridesmaid at my sister’s wedding and it was a gorgeous colour but I couldn’t tell you what the shade was called because I didn’t get the chance to note down the shade of it. Basically, there was about 30 lipsticks to choose from and in the end, we just chose the shade that was the closest match to my coral pink dress. The whole day, as you imagine, was all a bit of a blur! Anyway, I’ve been trying to look for it ever since but I’m not sure I’ll ever track it down.
I found something similar (or so I thought) from Lancome Shine Lover collection. Amuse Bouche was part of my 5 Gorgeous Lipsticks Launch top picks, so knowing that I’d love it, I went ahead and chose a shade. I picked a shade called Amuse Bouche – a pretty, day-time, summer-appropriate coral-orange. It’s not quite the touch of coral I wanted but it’s one that I’ll get a lot of wear out of this Summer.
For a sheer lipstick, it packs on quite the vibrancy for a sheer, glossy lipstick and provides up to 8hours of moisture. And it just feels great on lips, it ticks all the boxes! Moisturising? Tick! Non-sticky? Tick! It even has hyaluronic acid which plumps out fine lines.
