I’ll start by telling you that when there’s ever an opportunity to change the look of my eyes without surgery, I’m going to grab that that opportunity with two hands!
I’ve tried several types of contact lenses in the past and have experienced the boost of confidence that they can give you with such a small change. It’s almost like you become a different person!
Here’s a before and after showing you what my eyes look like with and without the lens:
The one on the left is without, which I think looks very washed out in comparison to the one I have the lens in. With 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™, my eyes appear bigger, luminous and intensified because the lens provides a more defined limbal ring (the edge around the coloured part of the eye) creating a stronger contrast to the white part. All of these factors give the illusion that your eyes are bigger – the results of which are visible in the photo above.
They come in two designs; Natural Shimmer and Natural Sparkle. I’ve tried both but I prefer natural shimmer which is what I’m wearing in the photos. In my opinion, Natural Shimmer suits those with dark brown eyes, it has got gold flecks around the lens which are there to illuminates your eyes. Whereas the Natural Sparkle lens will work for those with lighter coloured eyes to give the brightening, mesmerising Zooey Deschanel effect (I’m jealous!)

For me, it’s quite an obvious change and people will likely respond with “oh, you’re not wearing your glasses today”. But for others, it’s a subtle change to your overall look that will make people look at you trying to figure out what you’ve done in the “You look different today… have you done something to your hair?” kind of way!
I feel that I don’t have to hide behind my glasses anymore, and confidently become a contact lens wearer again. I’ve also enjoyed a change in my make-up routine when I opt to wear the 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ lens instead of my specs. I like to put the focus on my eyes by emphasising elements of my make-up such as a thicker cat eye or a heavier mascara.
Here’s the full run down of my make-up routine to suit my new shimmery eyes!
Face
Primer: Inika Truly Organic Pure Primer is applied all over the face to ensure the make up lasts on my skin all day long with minimal touch ups.
Base: bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Gel Cream is my base for Spring/Summer because it provides a comfortabale light to medium coverage, and has a hydrating gel formula.
Concealer: Soap&Glory Kick Ass Concealer is creamy and velvety. I dab away at my blemishes and touch it up throughout day when necessary.
Blush: I am usually
quite heavy handed on my blush but as you can see, with a strong eye and lip, I decided to add a subtle flush of colour to my cheeks with
Benefit’s Majorette Blush.
Setting: bareMinerals Mineral Veil is the final step in which I sweep the powder over my face to set it and remove any shine.
Eyes & Brows
Inika Mineral Eyeshadow: Using a chocolate brown and a champagne white, I work both shades on to my eye lids until they’re blended perfectly.
They’re Real Mascara and Roller Lash: I would normally wear my lenses on a night out which means the false lashes are a must-have. I can’t be bothered to faff about with false eyelashes during the daytime so I use
Benefit’s Roller Lash to keep my lashes curled upwards and a few coatings of They’re Real Mascara to give us volume and thickness.
They’re Real Push-Up Gel Liner: I love this
gel eyeliner pen, it’s really pigmented, long-lasting and easy to use on the upper lash line.
Lily Lolo Eyeliner Pencil: Applying a bit of soft kohl liner on the waterline defines the eyes
HD Brow Kit: This is my favourite brow kit, which I sometimes use as an eyeshadow too.
Benefit’s High Brow Pencil: This is a highlighter that I’ve used on the brow bone and also a bit under my eyes too!
Lips
Keeping it simple with a sheer, but bright lip colour, I’m using:
MAC’s 5-Alarm (with a bit of balm underneath because 5-Alarm is quite drying).
MAC 5-Alarm is a sheer red with an orange undertone.
Mirabella Lip Liner: It’s not a matching shade, but I wanted to keep the look quite simple and low maintenance so I went for a sheer red-brown. The liner I opted for still defines the shape of the lips but in a more subtle way.

hi what is the diameter of Define shimmer? Does it have 14.5mm? thanks
The diameter of Define Shimmer is 14.2mm.
I don't know if they have a 14.5mm option. Perhaps you may be able to get a definite answer from their twitter account. http://www.twitter.com/ACUVUE
Many thanks
The lenses look lovely on you! They really add that subtle definition. I'd love to try these, but I have astigmatism and I already need special lenses for that 🙁
