LookFantastic Beauty Box | The Runway Edition

At the time of writing this, it’s London Fashion Week and the closest thing I’ll get to LFW is this LookFantastic Beauty Box* which is themed around the glamorous event. It’s not as sad as it sounds, honest! In fact, I’d like to be frank (who’s Frank? #dadjoke), I’m very happy to view the coverage from the comfort of my home in the frosty region of the North East.

LookFantastic Beauty Box | The Runway Edition

If you had spoken to me about fashion shows, models, trends, and runway when I was a fashion student at college and university, I would have been yapping away excitedly, but having taken a step back and realising the fashion world in general is certainly not for my introverted personality (I would describe myself more accurately as an ‘extroverted introvert; but an introvert nonetheless) and I’m ok with. I’m not going to pretend or feign enthusiasm, because as much as I love the buzz and the good kind of goosebumps you get from being at a fashion show and nice clothes, the hysteria that surrounds Fashion Week kinda terrifies me!

Anyway, going back to LookFantastic beauty box for February which is nod to Fashion Week (would much rather this anyway than a Valentines theme), subscribers will get 6 beauty products from premium brands for £13 per box. It’s the closest I’ll get to LFW.

LookFantastic Beauty Box | The Runway Edition

I know there are A LOT of beauty boxes around and I’m very familiar with most of them after trying them out, but one thing I like to do is try to distinguish what their unique selling point is.

From what I gather, everyone has received the same items. If your gripe about beauty boxes is that you can never guarantee that you’ll get the same contents as someone else (resulting in, understandably, disappointed customers) then Look Fantastic might be the best option.

Here is what’s inside this month’s LookFantastic Beauty Box:

LookFantastic Beauty Box | The Runway Edition

Polaar Icy Magic Roll On, £25

Do you suffer from puffy, tired eyes? Then I would recommend Polaar’s Icy Magic Roll On. To me, this was the product that stood out most when I opened the box, and after a few sleepless nights, I couldn’t wait to try this on the eye contour area. I don’t think it has any effectiveness in combating wrinkles, so it is another added step to your morning routine before you apply your usual eye cream, but Icy Magic Roll On is like gliding an ice cube over your skin! It’s immediately cooling, energising, and feels sooo refreshing on skin.

Model Co. Eye Lites Metallic Shadow, £15

I would love to say that I suit metallic eyeshadows but no matter how much I make it work, I must accept defeat. Model Co. are a great brand and this eyeshadow shade is super pretty; it’s bronze with an iridescent diamond effect - it can be used on it’s own or over your eyeshadow of choice, but anything this shimmery doesn’t suit me. I don’t have a large area above my eyes to work with and something as sparkly as this only makes my eyes appear smaller. But I will be passing it on to someone who wants it, nothing EVER goes to waste around here!

This Works Deep Sleep Stress Less, £12

I really like This Works products, and this little roll-on is ideal for stressful times. It has a calming infusion of eucalyptus and lavender to fight tension and insomnia. I find that it’s quite reassuring to carry something like this around in your handbag. I’m quite a stresshead so I always have Rescue Remedy with me but I might see if Deep Sleep Stress Less is better for helping me to feel more at ease.

LookFantastic Beauty Box | The Runway Edition

MyVitamins Catwalk Queen (Supplement), £6.49

There are so many types of supplements out there, and it can be overwhelming to know which one is most effective for you. They’re expensive too so yeah, there’s that. It’s nice to have someone recommend something and tell you a bit about it which is exactly what LookFantastic have done here. MyVitamins Catwalk Queenn is a blend of vitamins, minerals, and extracts including Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Zinc and Bamboo Extract to boost the natural appearance of hair, skin, and nails.

The Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors +HA, £5

I’ve been hearing a lot about The Ordinary lately, so I’m extremely pleased to see this face moisturiser amongst this month’s LookFantastic’s Beauty Box selection! I have so many creams and lotions to go through so I haven’t actually opened this yet, but I like anything with Hyaluronic Acid on during winter, it’s great for dry and dehydrated skin. It makes your skin plumper too. It cost around £5 for the 30ml tube, so it’s a really affordable price.

Borghese Fango Mud Mask, £23

The first time I heard of this brand was in Sex And The City when they were confessing what the SSB is (Secret Single Behaviour) and Miranda’s was that she wears Borghese conditioning gloves while watching infomercials. Remember that? I opened this cute little pod of pink coloured clay based mask and applied it to my skin, but I soon realised that it contained parabens. I don't like using skincare that has parabens in it. The pod was cute, and you can get 3 uses out of it, it was also quite a novelty to use a pink face mask (think this is my first time) and the clay softened my skin, but I wouldn’t repurchase for as long as it the formula includes parabens.

This month, all subscribers will receive a free copy of the latest Elle Magazine too.

Check out my other beauty box reviews here. If you would like the sound of LookFantastic Beauty Box, it's £13 per month and you can sign up here.

Outfit Post: Shades Of Grey

uk fashion blogger winter outfit

I think these photos were taken just at the end of Autumn, just before the leaves went brown and started falling to the ground. I caught a cold that week but managed to drag myself away from bed to take a walk in the park, breathe in fresh air, and get on top of my work. I absolutely hate being stuck in bed, it really depresses me, so the walk did me a whole lotta good. I highly recommend it if you’re feeling a bit groggy (although perhaps don’t pick a day that’s wet and windy).

Lipstick With A Built-In Lip Liner | Benefit They're Real Double The Lip

Benefit teased us with these during the festive period and if you were one of the lucky ones who received the exclusive Benefit They’re Real Big Sexy Lip Kit, you would have been the first ones to try the new lipsticks before it was officially launched.

Benefit They're Real Double The Lip

Benefit They're Real Double The Lip

Adding to their very popular, best-selling They’re Real range, Benefit's first big release of the year are 8 brand new lipsticks. You will notice that They’re Real Double The Lip's packaging design is inline with the rest of the collection so it is instantly recognisable.

Trust Benefit to come up with something different; These lipsticks are a lipstick and lip liner 2-in-1 (and interesting concept). When you take the lid off, you will see a tear-shaped tip with two complementing shades in it. Benefit have carefully chosen the shades, so even though they look completely different to one another, they actually go together really well.

Birchbox x Papier UK | February 2017 Edition

One of the things I love about Birchbox* is not conforming to the theme of Valentine’s Day for their February edition. I appreciated this move last year and they’ve done it again this year. Valentine’s Day has been and gone (thank God), but it’s still relevant to talk about this month’s Birchbox.

This month’s is a collaboration with UK stationery brand, Papier. There are two leafy prints to choose from and those who upgrade their subscription will receive a really pretty Papier notebook (expect to see this a lot in my flatlays on Instagram… It is the perfect blog photo prop!)

As well as the beautiful Papier notebook, you will also receive 5 beauty samples. This varies slightly from box to box so you might not get the exact same but every subscriber this month will receive a Spectrum make-up brush and the POP Beauty eyeshadow!

Spectrum Eyeshadow Brush

I love it when beauty boxes include a branded make-up brush for us to try. Especially when it’s from a brand as cute as Spectrum! I’ve tried a couple of make-up brushes from Spectrum before and have been really happy with them. The one I’ve got is the Marbelous Eye Brush; fluffy, with a tapered tip.

POP Beauty Eyeshadow Trio

Usually when I receive eyeshadow palettes in beauty boxes, they haven’t always been to my taste. But when they get it right, they get it SO RIGHT, and this is prime example. The nude/brown shades in the eyeshadow palette is suitable for every day wear so I can literally pick it up every day and use the same three shades. I’m not in to experimenting with eyeshadow colours so this is perfect.

KEEOME Hydration Therapy Mask

Beauty consumers in the far east have been using sheet masks way before it hit the market over here in the UK. I used to stock up on it everytime I went to Hong Kong, taking up precious luggage allowance, so I’m mega pleased I can buy them here whenever I want. To be honest, I haven’t really used sheet masks in the past few years - I see it as a convenient product that I can use whenever I haven’t got the time, but I will always make time to pamper! Always. Once a week without fail and it’s a time that I always look forward to.

Sheet masks are as a mid-week treat when you’re feeling worn down and your skin needs a pick-me-up. They are, like I said, easy and convenient to use. Just take it out of the packaging, pop it on your face, and relax. I actually can’t wait to use this one by KEEOME, a Korean beauty brand. My skin is feeling so dry this winter, so hopefully this sheet mask will give it the hydration it needs until my nice facial session.

SHOW Premiere Dry Shampoo

This is the poshest dry shampoo I have ever used. Just look at it, I’m almost too scared to use too much of it! It’s formula includes tapioca powder and rice starch to absorb oil and the botanical extracts (aloe vera, mango, kiwi, and ginger lily) helps to condition the hair.

Beaver Professional Daily Moisture Conditioning Spray

Suffering from dry hair? This Daily Moisture Conditioning Spray by Beaver Professional will help. I have so many things in my bag to keep my face and hands moisturised throughout the day but I forget to do the same for my hair. I have hair balms and sprays but I just always forget, and then I complain about it and wonder my hair feels so dry and frazzled.

This Daily Moisturiser Conditioning Spray will nourish, detangle, de-frizz, protects against breakages, whilst adding moisture. It might just be my new handbag beauty essential!

If you fancy trying out some new beauty product from luxury brands, sign up to Birchbox for £10 per month. Check out my other Birchbox blogposts to check what the previous boxes have been like.

3 Hair Products That Adds Volume & Create Messy Texture Without Hair Spray

I got my hair cut recently and OMG it feels so good!

After having a bad salon experience last year, I waited for my hair to grow (along with my confidence) before going back but I eventually plucked up the courage to book an appointment and I’m really glad I did.

3 Hair Products That Adds Volume & Create Messy Texture

It was one of those things that I kept putting off and now that I’ve been and done it, it feels great. It’s incredible how much hair effects someone’s confidence, but I’ll never take it for granted. I’m glad to be feeling like myself again.

More importantly, I’m so pleased to have low-maintenance hair. Now it’s shorter, all I need to do is wash it, blow-dry the roots, scrunch the ends with my hands and leave it to dry naturally on it’s own. A bit of styling product helps it along the way to give it some hold. For added texture and more control, I like to use the following three products:

L'Oreal Techni Art Morning After Dust*, £12 (shop link)

This is perfectly fine to use as a dry shampoo, especially on ‘next day hair’ to revive the roots and refresh in-between washes. It has a nice, light fragrance and it doesn’t leave a powdery build-up on the scalp. I’ve been using this for a few months as a dry shampoo, it absorbs oil without that icky, chalky residue. But as well as the convenience factor of a dry shampoo, it’s also a fantastic product for boosting volume at the roots. It’s not the kind of big volume that you get when using a traditional, standard hairspray but it gives a little bit of a lift.

L'Oreal Wild Stylers Techni Art Next Day Hair*, £14.99 (shop link)

You know when next day hair is just easier to style? Well, this mineral powder fixing spray has a fine diffusion emulates that to make it more manageable when you're styling your hair. Used on dry hair as a finishing touch, it tames fly-aways, adds a texturised effect, and a piece-y, tousled finish. It feels natural (a non-sticky, matte finish that can easily be brushed out), so no worries about the spray making it feel crunchy or dry.

L'oreal Wild Stylers Techni Art Beach Waves

L'Oreal Wild Stylers Techni Art Beach Waves*, £11.95 (shop link)

I'm really in to that messy, just-rolled-out-of-bed-look - and on occasion, when I've accidentally slept in, I actually go out with literally rolled-out-of-bed-look. Because y'know. I just rolled out of bed, but we've all done that, right?...

When my freshly curled hair needs more texture, I use a salt spray to style it instead of hair spray for a more natural look. Salt spray is especially great for beachy, loose waves, but I sometimes use it on straight hair too - it adds texture, so it's not limp and fluffy.

Just a few sprays on either damp or dry ends will do, I'd say about 5-6 spritzes all over for an effortless mermaid-hair goals! Any more than that and your luscious locks will feel rough and tangly.

Have you tried any of these hair products from L'Oreal?

A Skincare Routine For Dry, Winter Skin

Rough, winter skin. What can I blame for that?

Well, there’s the obvious; adjusting to the bitter cold weather and central heating. The hard water at my parents house didn’t help. But you know what? I’ve got an inkling that it might just be the dairy consumption over the festive season. The festive season which starts earlier and earlier each year, and hasn't really ended... I'm currently proof-reading this post with a Maltesers share-bag in my hands.

A Skincare Routine For Dry, Winter Skin

My Current Winter Skincare Routine

What I eat never used to effect my skin but now, if I so much as glance at a cube of cheese, my skin breaks out. And it’s never just the one blemish. Oh no. As soon as one rears it’s ugly head, a few others decide to pop out and join in.

As well as experiencing dry skin which is irritating but normal for this time of year, there was a cheese and chocolate (and late nights) induced break out to contend with. Self-inflicted, of course, but seriously, can I be tempted to a reach for bit of cheese and chocolate? Yes. And was it worth it? Yes.

A Skincare Routine For Dry, Winter Skin

The main problem area was around the chin, but once it hit January, it started to clear up (funny, that!) and here are some of the skincare products that have helped my skin to improve during Winter (minus the blip in the last two weeks of December. Because Christmas. Doesn't count).

• My Morning Skincare Routine •

A Skincare Routine For Dry, Winter Skin

Step 1: Nuxe RĂªve de Miel Gel Cleanser (shop link)

Nuxe is such a great brand and you can find almost anything you need to suit your skintype. I've been using this gorgeous Reve de Miel Gel Cleanser* which includes honey and sunflower for a softer feeling skin. I use a small amount in the morning to refresh and lift without that drying, tight sensation that I've experienced with a lot of other gel cleansers. It's gentle, smells like honey, and it's a nice perk-me-up to start the day.

Step 2:  Roger & Gallet Beauty Vinegar (shop link) and/or Purelogicol Intelligent Toner (shop link)

Roger & Gallet's Beauty Vinegar* is one of the best skincare products I’ve ever used. I’m half way through it and it’s very likely that I’ll repurchased but if not (because I have A LOT of skincare already) I have Purelogicol Intelligent Toner to replace it.

I’ve been using both at the moment, the Beauty Vinegar smoothes the texture of my skin, removes residue from cleanser and make-up, and generally gives me my skin a nice glow whereas the Purelogicol Intelligent Toner tightens, lifts, and shrinks pores.

Searching for the perfect toner for my skin has been a bit of a mission. I’ve spent a lot of money finding one that doesn’t dry my skin out, and the Intelligent Toner by Purelogicol* seems to be going well so far. I’ve been using it for 2 months now and have had no issues. I think the might be down to the fact that the toner is that it’s actually a unique gel formula, and that’s why it’s more hydrating and balancing than other toners I’ve tried.

Step 3: Jurlique Activating Water Essence (shop link)

This is an extra step in my skin which I introduced in to my routine about 5-6 months ago. You only need to use 3 or 4 drops of it, so the 150ml bottle should last ages! Jurlique's Activating Water Essence* has replaced the rosewater that I had finished. I love both but I think I actually swaying towards the water essence a little bit more.

I apply the water essence after the gel toner has settled, and when you rub it in the palms of your hands, it goes silky like a very fine moisturiser, and simply pat in to skin for a lasting hydration throughout the day. I find that it protects and hydrates my skin when it's cold and needs more than just my face cream.

Step 4: Philosophy Take A Breathe Eye Gel Cream (shop link)

There is caffeine and barley leaf in Philosophy's Take A Breathe* gel cream formula which wakens up the eye contour and claims to increase the oxygen levels in the skin to revitalise the delicate area. I am lucky that I don't have puffy or dark circles, so I can't say for sure whether it brightens up the eye area... but what I love about this eye cream is how it feels.

I've used many eye creams lately that leaves a residue and it clumps up when I go to apply eye make-up. This one sinks in and absorbs within a minute. It is oil-free too, and ensures the eye contour is moisturised during frosty days.

Step 5: Neutrogena Hydra Boost Water Gel Face Moisturiser (shop link)

If you have extra dry skin, I recommend this brilliant Hydra Boost Water Gel* moisturiser by Neutrogena (£12.99). It feels like water and is so light on skin. If you've ever tried Clinique's Moisture Surge gel cream, it's very similar - I'd say that it's a pretty good dupe for considerably less.

• Evening Skincare Routine •

A Skincare Routine For Dry, Winter Skin

Step 1: SAMAYA Vata Hydrating Cleanser (shop link)

SAMAYA'S Vata* all-natural formulation is created to cleanse and purify with it's rich yet gentle balmy cream that melts on skin to remove dirt and make-up. It has a combination of powerful, botanical key ingredients such as manuka honey, rose flower extract, rose geranium oil, aloe leaf extract, and turmeric root oil to name a few!

The product is beautifully packaged and the brand philosophy is such a hook. They put emphasis on finding the perfect balance in a busy world. Such a treat to use in the evenings.

Step 2: Roger & Gallet Beauty Vinegar

Just as the morning routine, the second in the evening is the Beauty Vinegar. This closes the pores after cleansing.

Step 3: Good Things Anti Blemish Overnight Clearing Serum (shop link)

At £5.99, this Overnight Clearing Serum* serum is affordable AND effective. It's free from parabens, mineral oils, SLS, and all the other nasty chemicals. If an affordable brand can do this, the high end brand have no excuse. The is a cream based serum which I apply before face cream and with my skin breaking out, I couldn't be more grateful to have this serum at hand. It's anti blemish power comes from licorice and willowbark extract. Keeps the spots away!

Step 4: Antonia Burrell Bright & Light Eye Cream (shop link)

I tried a pre-launch sample of Antonia Burrell's Bright & Light Eye Cream* in the Summer but I wasn't given much information about it. It came in a small little bottle with a pump dispenser, and I made the assumption that the final product would just be a bigger version of that. How wrong was I!

It's actually a rollerball which is unusual for a cream. The metal rollerball stimulates the blood circulation so I use this around the eye area before squeezing the cream on to my skin. It's quite rich, so only a tiny bit is required. I find that the rollerball doesn't help the cream to absorb so I just pat it in with my fingertip. Active ingredients include: Meadowfoam extract (softening), at oil (soothing), White Bird of Paradise/Strelitzia Flower Extract (brightening), Pomegranate & Orange Blossom Peptides (anti-ageing, anti-wrinkle, firming), and beetroot extract (long lasting hydration).

Step 5: Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream (shop link)

So, this night cream has avocado in it. Say no more. I'M SOLD. Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream* is a soft, buttery cream that soothes and restores your skin while you sleep. Tests and trials have revealed that this cream reduces wrinkles by 22%, and dryness by 85.7%. Impressive stats! And also, I heard through the grapevine that this is one of Cara Delevigne's fave skincare products. If it's good enough for Cara, it's good enough for me.

• The Weekly Treatments •

A Skincare Routine For Dry, Winter Skin

Looking back on my Summer skincare routine that I blogged about in August of last year, I realised that my recommendations for the weekly treatments haven't changed, so I'll keep this short.

I really do LOVE these two products and they're the first ones I go to when my skin is acting up. This is because of how gentle the scrub is, and how softening the mask makes your skin feels.

Scrubs are a tricky one during Winter, you don't want to use anything harsh that would irritate you're already irritated dry skin. As I only use an exfoliating treatment 1-2 times a week, I tend to choose a different one each time. Sometimes it's a resurfacing face peel, sometimes I'll go for a coffee scrub, but one that I've come to trust is Madara Exfoliating Oil-To-Milk Scrub*, which I've been using for months.

There are no microbeads in this, the particles are of a natural wax. As soon as it touches water, the oil turns in to a delicate cleaning milk to help you scrub away the impurities.

Always follow a face scrub with a face mask to help close the pores, restore the condition of your skin and most important, to reduce the risk of a break out too. I've got loads that I'm using on a weekly basis but I just can't keep away from Nuxe Masque Creme Fraiche de Beauty. A part of my face had an uneven, rough and scaly texture (I suspect that would be due to the hard water at my Mum and Dad's house over Christmas) but this face mask smoothed things right down. It's amazing!

I have loads of face scrubs and face masks but these two are my faves, but I will try and remember to recommend a couple of new ones next time I do a skincare routine, which will likely to be in 6 months time when it's Summer. Summer? Sunshine? Oh yeah, what's that?...

11 Beauty Products To TREAT YO'SELF To This Valentine's Day

11 Beauty Gifts To Buy Yourself This Valentine's Day

11 Beauty Gifts To Buy Yourself This Valentine's Day

It’s Valentine’s Day soon, the day of lurve, and I want you to TALK BEAUTY TO ME.

Being unattached, instead of going BLEURGH in the face of Valentine’s, I am going to shower myself with gifts this year. Any excuse to top up my beauty collection, right?! I mean, it wouldn’t be that bad to treat yourself to 1 or 2 Val-Day gifts, would it? Of course not!

As a single gal, it might not be in the true sense of celebrating the day of love. But I’m big on self-love and self-care (you gotta take care of number one), so I have decided to embrace Valentine’s Day in a different way this year. I kinda don’t want to miss out and I don’t think you should either. I might even treat myself to flowers this year too ✌

I’ve put together a Valentine’s Gift guide of beauty products that you should definitely TREAT YO’SELF (or your BFF) to this year. I have thrown some heart-shaped things here, but I promise you that there's nothing tacky or gross.

Happy GAL-entines!

Vegan-Friendly Bath Melt & Candle Gift Box | Valentine's Day Gift Idea

This year, I’ve got plans to recommend more vegan-friendly beauty products on my blog, and (hopefully) by the end of the year, I will have filled this section with wonderful beauty products that are suitable for vegans.

cupcake shape bath melts suitable for vegans, vegan friendly bath products

Vegan-Friendly Bath Melt & Candle Gift Box

One brand that you will ALL love is Kiss Air, which are vegetarian and vegan-friendly. You may have spotted their lovely hand-poured, soy wax candles on my blog before but more recently, they have launched their own range of cocoa butter bath melts (£3 each). AND… just in time for Valentine’s Day, they have launched a Bath Tub Treats Gift Box* (£13.00) which combines two of my favourite things; candle and bath stuff!

cupcake shape bath melts suitable for vegans, vegan friendly bath products

Beautifully gift wrapped in pastel coloured unicorn patterned paper, the gift set features 2 deluxe size tea lights and 3 bath melts - OF YOUR CHOICE. There are other gift wrap design options which include hearts and floral print, but who can resist the unicorns! It’s just so cute!

cupcake shape bath melts suitable for vegans, vegan friendly bath products

The really great thing about Kiss Air’s brand new Bath Tub Treats Gift Box is that you can totally choose your choice of bath melt and scent of tealight that goes in to it. For an extra £2.95, you can add a third and personalised tealight too. If it’s a present for someone, they will really love the personal touch. Everyone loves things that’s got their name on it, don’t they?

cupcake shape bath melts suitable for vegans, vegan friendly bath products

As you can see, the bath melts are shaped like mini cupcakes and are made with moisturising cocoa butter. I personally like to cut bath melts in half as I find half is just the right amount for me, but you can use them whole to give your skin a moisturising treat.

There are 5 bath melts scents available but the three that I picked are:

  • Rose Blush: Floral, romantic fragrance of rose petals.
  • Oh So Sweet: Sweet candy floss, pink sugar, and a hint of sweet oranges.
  • Glitter Bomb: A blend of summer fruits with a hint of vanilla and musk. With a light dusting of glitter!

personalised tea light candles gift set

I opted for the Champagne and Pomelo scented tealight candles but there’s also a lovely Parma Violet scent, and a Sandalwood and Musk to pick from.

Champagne and Pomelo has notes of sparkling champagne, blended with citrus fruits of pink pomelo, sweet grapefruit, Brazilian orange, rhubarb, and fresh watermelon. That really is as yummy-smelling as that sounds! They’re bigger than the average tealights too, they burn for 8-10 hours, and you can re-use the glass as a tealight holder.

Have a browse at Kiss Air's website to see what other goodies tickle your fancy!
