Affordable Beauty: 5 Beauty Products To Try From Avon

I miss a lot of things from my childhood and strangely, catalogues is one of them! When I was little, I would make Birthdays and Christmas wish lists of all the things I wanted by cutting and pasting the pages from Argos and Littlewoods combined. Even though I never got those presents (Mr Frosty and I was just not meant to be), I felt like seeing product cut-outs on a collage I “creatively” put together were enough to satisfy me, anyway. I kind of imagined they were all mine. Ah, the simple times!

Affordable Beauty: My Top 5 Picks From Avon

It has been a long time since I got my hands on a physical copy of an Avon brochure but I’d imagine I would get the same feeling as I did when I was child. Flicking through the 260-odd pages of beauty products upon beauty products and thinking to myself ‘Want. Want. WANT.’.

I don’t even know if they make copies of the brochure anymore but there is an online version available. Seeing the beautifully put-together pages makes me want things I never knew I needed. After all, that is the idea? And I have fallen for it!

It’s alright though, we all know how Avon affordable prices are which means a treat (or five) is guilt-free. And the 5 Avon products that I’ve been using lately have been a surprisingly good!

My 3 Favourites From Antipodes Skincare

Antipodes is a great skincare brand with a great ethos.  Originating from New Zealand, it is inspired by nature from the sustainable ingredients they put in to their products to the recyclable packaging.

If you’re a skincare junkie like I am, you need to try something from Antipodes. For the past 7 or 8 months, I have been trying a small amount of skincare from the brand and so far, here are my faves!

My 3 Favourites From Antipodes Skincare

My 3 Favourites From Antipodes Skincare

Worship Superfruit Antioxidant Serum*
Let’s start with the serum which I’ve been using for about 7 months now. The Worship Superfruit Antioxidant Serum is packed with boysenberry, blackcurrant, kiwifruit and Vinanza Grape which has antioxidant properties. If that’s not enough, it also contains shots of coffee berry and acai! The pipette dispenses a watery purple serum which you apply all over your face before moisturiser. It doesn't immediately feel as rich as other serums I've used but this is a potent blend all the same.

It works really well and you can see the results immediately, it felt like water to my face and my skin just soaks it up. It left no residue and I enjoyed using it. At £34, it is quite reasonably priced for a serum!

Aura Manuka Honey Mask

Aura Manuka Honey Mask*
This is one of my FAVOURITE face masks at the moment. If you can't decide what to buy from Antipodes, go for this face mask. It's brilliant! We all know how great Manuka Honey is for us so when it’s used in a beauty product, you know it’s going to be fab for your skin!

It doesn’t have that typical medicinal smell of Manuka honey, but it does have a lovely sweet citrus scent which I love. Treat your skin to this mask twice a week - I use it to pep my skin up mid-week and then again on the weekend to revitalise the tiredness.

It’s suitable for those with blemish-prone skin and you can treat spots as they appear with this Aura Manuka Honey Mask (£21.99) as it has antibacterial properties.

Hallelujah Lime and Patchouli Cleanser

Hallelujah Lime and Patchouli Cleanser*
I’m going through a phase with cleansers at the moment. I want to try a cream formula that is just as good as Liz Earle’s Cleanse & Polish. I’ve tested A LOT of cream cleansers but nothing has comes as close as Liz Earle (yet). But maybe this one from Antipodes could be a good replacement? It is the newest addition to my mini collection of Antipodes skincare.

Unlike the thickness of Cleanse & Polish, the consistency of the Hallelujah Lime And Patchouli Cleanser (£21.99) can actually work this cream cleanser around your face. Massaging it around in circular motions for up to a minute to helps the circulation and gives better results (as well lifting every trace of make up!).

There are a lot of choices of cleansers in the Antipodes range but the Hallelujah Lime and Patchouli is suitable for all skin types. It’s a rich blend of carrot seed oil, avocado oil (high in Omega 3 and 9), macadamia nut oil, jojoba, natural lime and patchouli extract. All the goodness from those super ingredients give your skin a brighter, smoother, healthier glow.

A New Way To Straighten Your Hair

There was a time when I was eternally grateful for the invention of hair straighteners. I ironed my hair until I got that straighter than straight look. Even when I didn’t even need to use the hair iron, I went ahead and used it anyway. It was a part of my morning routine and I just didn’t feel right if I hadn’t straightened my hair that day. Call it an obsession but we were inseparable.

Little Ondine Peel-Off Nail Polish

Girls who were born in the 80’s… do you remember the Tinkerbell nail polish for kids that you could remove from your nails by peeling them off? Well, it’s time to get a little nostalgic now. Hop into my time machine because I’m gonna take you back to the 80’s for a short moment. Kind of.

Little Ondine Peel-Off Nail Polish

Little Ondine is a nail polish brand that have developed a non-toxic, natural, peel-off formulation which totally reminds me of Tinkerbell nail polishes back in the 80’s. Unlike those cute but probably nasty-smelling bottles from the 80’s (I can’t remember from all those years back), Little Ondine’s nail polishes are odourless. An odourless nail polish? I know, right?! That itself is pretty remarkable!

When my sister came round last weekend, she saw my small collection of Little Ondine and said that she had previously looked into these when she was pregnant. They describe their polishes as a natural nail colour composed of water, purified resin and organic colourants.

They contain no potentially harmful fumes and as I’ve said, does not give off a strong, toxic smell whatsoever. As they peel off cleanly, you can remove them without the use of a polish remover either.

I was skeptical about the colour and pigment to begin with. Could something described as natural be opaque and strong in pigment? Or was it going to be weak, wishy-washy, and sheer? Upon the first stroke of the brush, I could tell immediately that the strength of the colour was as strong as any other polishes I’ve ever tried - if not better!

The red (shade L001 Fusion) and black (L100 Back To Black) was a sharp, bold and glossy. So opaque that there needs to be a new word for opaque! All you need is the one single coat of colour. The orange (L072 Ibiza) was slightly less so but still an impressive strength of colour. I also got a bronze nude metallic (L004 Obsession) which came out exactly as you’d imagine. Both the orange and bronze needed 2 coats.

And a glitter. Oh the glitter! We all know what an absolute pain the bum it is to remove glitter polishes from our nails, right? They’re pretty, but a pain in the arse! With Little Ondine, you don’t have to worry about getting the hammer and chisel out because when you’re ready to remove the glitter polish, you simply peel it right off.

You can see how the shades look on my Instagram as I am posting photos of my manicure on there. I will be adding more so please keep your eyes peeled.

Now on to the staying power. Because of the formulation, it stays chip-resistant. And I have read on other blogs that they’ve been able to keep the polish on their nails for up to 4 days. But... for me, it started peeling by the end of the day. And definitely by the time I had a good soak in the bath.

I have to admit though, I was one of those kids at school who would find hours of amusement by covering my hands in PVA glue and peeling it off. Some might find that gross but I always found it somewhat therapeutic! I don’t really know what that says about me, but because I knew these nail polishes could peel off, I guess I was always looking for that imperfection in my nails… an excuse to peel them off!

If I paid no attention to them, the polish would potentially last on my nails for about 3 days. The short-time wear is something I am willing to accept. It's an alternative and a compromise that I'll make for a product that isn’t as bad for your nails as all the other polishes out there.

Applying them takes me no time at all, though. Because they are completely free from odour, you can actually use these on the train, at a cafe, or at your work desk without stinking the place out or annoying anyone around you! I would suggest applying Little Ondine nail polishes after your evening bath and give it time to to set overnight. The easy application and fast drying time means you can paint all 10 nails in less than 10 minutes.

You need to thoroughly clean the surface of your nails from oils and dust before applying Little Ondine’s secret polish as a base, 1 or two coats of colour, and another coat of the secret polish to bond it all together.

Each bottle retails at £8.40 each (Secret based/top coat cost £7.80) and there are A LOT of shades available!

Summer Must-Have Accessory | Rose Gold Mirrored Sunglasses

I’ve never tried a pair of mirrored lens sunglasses before but what better way to give this trend a go than with a pair of rose gold ones! These sunnies are the Cleopatras from Le Specs* at Jules B and they are not for shrinking violets (which I have to admit, I sometimes am!).

Rose Gold Mirrored Sunglasses

This Summer's MUST-HAVE accessory

The downfall of choosing a pair of sunglasses on the Internet without trying them on first is you never know how they’re going to look on. Nothing really prepares you for how they truly look on you until you try them on for yourselves, but I did look up photos of models wearing them to get a better idea of what they look like when worn.

They are slightly bigger than what I normally go for and I totally expected that. I used my RayBan as to gauge the sizing. For RayBans, I would usually go for the 49mm lens width which are the perfect size for my face. The Le Specs Cleopatra are 52mm and the extra bit at the top is what makes them appear larger.

New From Soap & Glory | Shower Jelly

There are some beauty brands that really steal your heart and can do no wrong. For me, Soap & Glory is one of them. Whatever bath and body product Soap & Glory bring out, I am sure to love it even before I’ve tried it! That’s how confident I am in the brand. Afterall, bath and body is what they do best and you can’t argue with that when they’ve won multiple awards for their amazing products!

Soap & Glory Shower Jelly

New From Soap & Glory | Shower Jelly

When I found out about the new Shower Jelly that Soap & Glory were launching, I was really excited to try them out! I love any kind of product with jelly consistency! I went through a phase of being obsessed with the Shower Jelly from Lush but they are really hard to use. They slip out of your hand and they end up breaking in small, hard-to-use chunks that I worry will block the drain. That always feel like such a waste!

Fret not, because the new Shower Jellies from Soap & Glory come in a large, colourfully packaged tube so you can squeeze out without wasting a single drop (well, blob) of it!

Birchbox May | For The Dreamers

Towards the end of each month, I usually flag a little. I run out of enthusiasm, ideas, and words. Is that a familiar feeling for you too? But when Birchbox* arrives during the first week of the month, it gets me excited about beauty products again! It’s the little things…

Birchbox May | For The Dreamers

Having a little bunch of little products to try is one of the little joys that beauty fans experience. And I guess that’s the single reason as to why these beauty box subscriptions have been totally successful. Birchbox has been a firm favourite of mine because they actually introduce their subscribers to high end, luxe, niche brands and I have discovered so many beauty staples because of them.

The edition for May is For The Dreamers… a box of beauty products that helps you look and feel like a dream.

Small Ways To Make Positive Changes

Small Ways To Make Positive Changes

For someone who likes to blog about 5-7 times a week, taking a long breaks in between can feel very strange. It makes me feel guilty when I don't update my blog with a new post, it make me feel like I am neglecting something I’ve worked so hard on.

Two weeks isn’t even that long (12 days to be exact... but who's counting?!), but in the fast-paced world of digital where you see the daily traffic plummet each day, a fortnight can feel like a lifetime!

After feeling a bit out of sorts lately, I decided that it would be beneficial to step away from the blog for a couple of weeks. When I’m not feeling myself, the last thing I want is to force a half-arsed blogpost about beauty products.

This is more like putting down in words how I feel and what I'm doing about it, as opposed to tips on you can make positive changes. Although if it helps just one person to take a step in the right direction, then I'm going to be a happy bunny. But more than anything, I wanted to admit to myself that I haven't been ok but I'm taking things slowly in looking after myself. I'd like to come back to this blogpost at the end of the year and think 'carry on what you're doing, you've done great, you're going to be a-ok!'

~~~~~~~
For ages, I haven’t felt right and by ignoring it, I lost a sense of who I was. I kept myself busy but when the distractions stops, the thoughts of fear and stress uncontrollably filters into my brain!
Basically, I have figured that working from home and living alone isn't the healthiest, balanced environment for me at the moment! I haven't figured out whether I am someone who enjoys her own company, but I like to think that one day that I will look back on this time and envy the freedom and independence I've got right now.
The past two months, it has made me feel slightly jittery and I knew that it was time to start making some changes! Let's call it 'baby steps'.
