A Little Catch Up | Goodbye Summer!

uk fashion and beauty blogger

August started off with a brand new dress (of course!) and a trip to Manchester. It had been ages since we went on a road trip and we hadn't visited Manchester in years! We walked around in Arndale, and had a mooch about at The Northern Quarter and had cakes a-plenty! We ordered rainbow cake and the pistachio cake at Teacups&Cake (overused the word "cake" there!) which was a lovely place to chill out! We are going back to Manchester for work in the middle of September to a photoshoot which is really exciting. The planning stage always makes me nervous but I'm sure everything will be fine on the day...! I can't wait to see more of the city!

Between getting very distracted from watching friend's and family's ALS Ic Bucket Challenge and looking after little pets, I also got back in to the swing of outfit/personal style blogging. I decided to swallow my pride and make things easier for myself by taking outfit photos indoors using the tripod and remote again (as you've probably have noticed already!) which means that every day out, family occasion and road trip, I can just relax. I can experience these occasions without stressing about blogging, and enjoy spending time the people around me instead of constantly having my blog at the back of my mind, scouting for backdrops, and being the annoying one who lags behind to get a few outfit snaps. I'm not going to be doing daily outfits any time soon (I never have done) but I'm pleased to get a routine going, one where I don't have to rely on anyone else to take my photos for me. I wrote more about my current thoughts on blogging and have loved all of your comments.

All in all, it has been a fairly chilled August, it's always a very quiet time of year. Admittedly, it isn't my favourite month as I know Summer is coming to an end but I am ready for Autumn though! I remember how much I enjoyed Autumn last year, it's a beautiful time of year. September looks to be a fun month ahead, I have the photoshoot coming up as mentioned (I'll be behind the camera), a 30th birthday party and a reunion with my uni friends! Then after that, I'm going to start saving up for Christmas! Ugh!

Rounding this up with a few of my favourite blogposts this month:

Monthly Favourites

soap and glory super tonic fragrance

I've been spritzing away with this Super Tonic Fragrance ever since I got it! If you like their Orangeasm range then you'll love this spray. The scent doesn't last long on the skin (about an hour or so) but I like that it's light and fresh. It is really cooling, as it has mint in it and like I said, I've been using this quite a lot over the past two months and I still have over half a bottle left. I hope they release other Super Tonic fragrances! I would love to see a Sugar Crush one! I'd snap that right up! More on the Soap&Glory's Orangeasm range here.

Bria Organic Body Butter*
Bria is a very small brand that specialises in organic oils and balms that is gentle enough to use on babies skin. Good enough for baby, good enough for me! If you suffer from eczema or have sensitive skin, you might be interested in Bria! Their products are natural, free from synthetics and artificial fragrances. The ingredients are chosen for their soothing, moisturising and calming properties. I've been trying the Bria Organic Body Butter and Repair Replenish Balm. The latter (shown in the last picture below) is odourless and works well to sooth itching, chapped skin, burns and scalds, but the body butter contains May Chang and Lemongrass (which is my favourite out of the two) is extremely moisturising on skin. I use this on my hands, cuticles, feet, legs, and arms. Both can be purchased from the Bria website

I have loads of these! I've already blogged about these EOS lip balm spheres a couple of years ago and I'm going to be doing a blogpost on natural lip balms so I'll save my natter for that! The EOS lip balm spheres are one of my favourites and the lemon one has been by side throughout August!

best face cleansers, liz earle hot cloth cleanser

Whenever someone is new to Balance Me and asks what product to try, I always say their Radiance Face Mask. It's a face scrub, cleanse and face scrub all in one! This multi-tasker buffs and polishes, unclogs pores and ensures your face looks radiant, plump and hydrated with immediate results. I first used it last year and have gone through two tubes of it (the one pictured being my third) and I've recently re-discovered it.

If I could, I would feature this in every single monthly favourites! I blogged about it last week so hop over here if you'd like to read the full review! The formula is the same as the original (with the addition of the new scent) but unfortunately, this has now been discontinued. Fret not! It won't be long until the next limited edition bottle! I'll be going back to the original one until then!

best shampoo for dry hair, bumble and bumble creme de coco

This is the shampoo I've been using all Summer. It is expensive but it has lasted me the whole season and I reckon I can get 5 or 6 washes from what is left in the bottle. It has been a great product to use as it has kept my hair light, shiny whilst taming frizz without making my hair limp and flat. With so many choices in the Bumble&bumble range and with lots of new releases, I am keen to try something else, but I'll get another bottle of Creme De Coco when Summer comes round again. (Read full review here)

LUSH D'fluff, strawberry shaving soap

I've enjoyed using this little tub of strawberry shaving soap, which I first blogged about in this LUSH haul. Almost half of it is gone already but I'll be repurchasing once the tub has emptied! D'fluff is from LUSH and is a great alternative to shaving gel, which can sometimes feel quite drying on my legs. In fact, anything that foams up tends to dry my skin out and I end up trying to "fix" it with lotion, so I'm delighted that LUSH have come up with a substitute. This scent is a lot nicer and stronger when applied to skin, it smells so good but that's no surprise as it is made from fresh strawberries, golden syrup, egg whites, coconut oil and cocoa butter. Lovely and moisturising!

beauty blogger monthly favourites

A bit of a random one to round up this post, but my non-beauty favourite of this month is Walker's pulled pork crisps!

Rodial Super Acids Skincare | Review

Rodial Super Acids Range

It's a little scary to use skincare product that has the words "SUPER ACIDS" on the packaging but there's nothing harmful in these so we can breathe a sigh of relief! First of all, it's hard to ignore the lovely bright green and silver packaging which screams "use me, use me!" every time I look in my box of beauty products (yes, it is now a box as I have no more room in my drawer for them all). In general, I think Rodial packaging is pretty awesome but how does the products match up? I've been using these for a month now on and here is how I got on!

I like the name of this! It makes it sound like it's going to work miracles on your skin after a heavy night of partying! It is a fairly straight forward face scrub, and not abrasive at all. You apply a small amount to your skin and gently massage for about one minute. The 3-in-1 micro polish is formulated to refine, brighten and renew the appearance of skin with immediate results. The micro-beads buffs away dead skin cells and unclogs pores. After the first use, my skin looked more radiant, it gave me a rather healthy dewy glow! This contains glycolic and salicylic acid, vitamin E, shea butter and probiotic technology to strengthen and protect. I use this once or twice a week along with the face mask.

Always apply a face mask right after using a scrub or exfoliator, this reduces the risk of a breakout. Exfoliators unclogs pores and therefore opens them so if you don't treat the new surface of skin, you may see a few spots and pimples rear it's head. This one is obviously made to be used together with the After-Party Scrub but it doesn't always have to be matching products. The X-treme Hangover Mask is a resurfacing clay mask that deeply cleanses, and restores your skin to a youthful, healthy-looking complexion. There are lots of fancy ingredients in this like pronalen fruit acids, laracare, argireline and hexapeptide which decongest, tones, revitalises and improve the look of skin.

You apply a thin layer of this and then rub the residue off with your fingers but I found it quite difficult to do because they clay was resisting to come off. It was like it's stuck there. It ended up chafing the skin on my face (not good if you have sensitive skin) so I found that wiping this away with a muslin cloth was much quicker and easier.

Not to be mistaken for make-up remover face wipes (those really messes up the balance of my skin), the Rodial cleansing pads are made to remove grime, oil and dirt whilst reducing the appearance of large pores. Unlike the cheap face wipes you get in Boots or Superdrug, these pads are hydrating, refreshing and actually cleanses (and so it should, for £38 a tub). It does say on the website that you can remove make up with these pads but I wouldn't recommend it purely because the pads aren't big enough and you might end up using 6-8 pads just to remove it all. There are only 50 pads in there, and they are quite thin and delicate so I think think it's better to use cleansing wipes on clean skin. I've been using these on the days I've gone make-up free and don't require a heavy skincare routine. Very gentle on skin and smells really nice!

In the UK, Rodial Skincare is available from their website, Marks and Spencer, ASOS, Selfridges, Space NK, House of Fraser, Harvey Nichols and Harrods. To find a stockist in your country, visit their website for more information.

Outfit: NEW LOOK Check Print Dress

Dress New Look / Jacket ASOS / Bag* NotOnTheHighStreet / Shoes Miss Selfridge (similar here)

A quick Outfit Of The Day from me today as I'm just about to dash out the house but I wanted to show you this dress which is from New Look. It is currently on sale on ASOS at the moment so it's only £13! When my order arrived through the post, I wasn't sure whether to keep this one - mainly because the waist is a little tight - I could do with an elasticated waist here. It's not too bad unless you are bloated but I'll just need to lay off the carbs when I've got this on. The leather jacket toughened it up, as always! Now that it's practically Autumn, I will be bringing out my leathers, thick coats and 200 denier tights out of storage!

Home Inspiration: Adding Personality To Your Home

A couple of weeks ago, I thought I would be moving houses because the landlord put the property on the market, but it looks like I'm going to be staying for the time being. I'm pretty relieved about that because I'm not in the mood to look for another place to live at the moment, it's such a chore when you're being forced to move out. Luckily, things have worked out (for now) and in fact, I have been given the permission to decorate the apartment so I've been deciding what to do with our space!

If you're following me on Instagram, you may have noticed the slight increase in the amount of home inspiration photos that I'm posting on there. Up until now, I've been buying bits and bobs to try and make my stamp on the place so the question is do I continue to change things up with new home ware decoration or do I commit to a complete make-over? Of course, the latter might take some time as I've got to save up to do each room! Either way, I've been trawling the Internet for some ideas and here are some unusual things I found!

(Please note: I found these photos on Pinterest and have managed to track down the original source which I will credit but as most of these products are old they might either discontinued or sold out. Hopefully, though, they will still offer some ideas and inspiration for your home)

Biscuit Cushions
biscuit cushions

I know that there are lots and lots of these around and looking through NotOnTheHighStreet, you can see the various types of designs but I've never really taken a fancy to them until now. I love the dimensions of these as that they have piping around the edge which makes them look more realistic. I've got a set of matching cushions with goes with my sofa but I also have singular ones to make it more interesting. I'm also one of those people who love loads of cushions and pillows on my bed too! £20-£25 is probably the most I would pay for a cushion if they are as cute as this (it could be something to add to Christmas/Birthday wishlist) and I would only get the one. Which biscuit would you go for?

Mean Girls Doormat
mean girl quotes on a doormat

You sure won't find this item in every house! If you're a fan of Mean Girls (and let's face it, who isn't!) then this unique doormat with a quote on it will complete your home! I found it on Pinterest and then tracked it down on Etsy but it's currently sold out! It's hand painted by a lady called Katherine who lives in Illinois and the mat cost about £28 but then there are shipping (and possibly custom charges) to factor in.

PASTEL PINEAPPLE DECORATIONS
pineapple homeware, pastel homeware
From Mybuckett

Not only am I obsessed with the pineapple print fashion trend, I'm also loving it for the home too! These pastel coloured pineapples are made of resin but they're are from an online shop that is based in New Zealand so it's not something I can buy because a) they don't ship worldwide and b) they have sold out of the pastel pineapples. All is not lost, however, as I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for something similar!

CANVAS ART
pineapple wall art, pineapple canvas

Pineapple Canvas Print from hardtofind.com

The landlord has hung up a few "limited edition" paintings on the wall and they're really not to my taste. We were told by the letting agency that we could wrap them up and store them in the storage cupboard but I didn't want to risk damaging them so they have remained up on the wall. But now that we are allowed to replace them, I'm on the look out for new canvas art. Something very simple but cool like this pineapple canvas. Maybe I can paint something myself if I'm having troubles look for the perfect piece.

PINEAPPLE WALLPAPER
pineapple wallpaper

I'm toying with the idea of wallpapering a single wall in the living room. The idea of pineapple wallpaper sounds a bit tacky, but I looked in to it and I found a whole bunch of cool ideas. After a bit of Googling about, I found lots of pineapple wallpaper on a site called Hygge & West. It's a bit out of my budget but just look how beautiful their wallpapers are!
