5 Summer Essentials from Perricone MD

Perricone MD review, essential beauty products for Summer

Shop The Post

Here are 5 skincare essentials for Summer from luxury brand, Perricone MD*, that will help prep your skin and give you a radiant and healthy glow this Summer! I'm giving away this whole set worth a total of over £300.00! That's AMAZING, right? Details of the giveaway later but first, how do the products match up?

Chloro Plasma (face mask) - £67.00
I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS PRODUCT. Out of the whole set, Chloro Plasma is my favourite and the one I would highly recommend if you were to buy one product from the Perricone MD range. I featured it in my recent Current Beauty Favourites blogpost at the beginning of the month and severals weeks of using it, I am still amazed by it.

When my skin is having a lack lustre day where it feels dehydrated, scaly and flakey, I know that this little pot is going to fix it right up. It's like a luxury treat for my face! The creamy gel dries as a clay on your skin and you can feel a slight tightening sensation but it shouldn't tingle.

You will feel your your face tighten with most clay masks as it sets and hardens. Chloro Plasma is an anti-ageing formula containing microcapsules of chlorophyll (this takes me back to my primary school nature project!) which burst as you massage the capsules in to your skin which is quite therapeutic and I don't think the novelty will ever wear off. Upon application, the burst capsules causes the pale green gel-to-clay to turn in to a deep green, making you look like the Wicked Witch of The West from Wizard Of Oz.

You rinse with water after ten minutes of leaving it on and my skin feels so much better after using Chloro Plasma. It plumps, brightens, purifies, detoxifies, smoothes out wrinkles, tighten up pores and illuminate your skin's overall appearance. You can definitely feel all of this happening when the masks is on your face and you can most certainly see the difference once you've wiped it all off. The results are visible after the first time you've used it and provides a quick fix to dull looking skin.

Photo Plasma (face moisturiser) - £57.00
I love the name of this, it just makes me feel like when I have this cream on, I'm ready for any photo! This odourless cream is especially fantastic for Summer because it contains an the all important SPF. The SPF 30 in the Photo Plasma will help protect you from harmful sun exposure, which not only damages your skin, but it ages you (argh, those wrinkles!). It's a nice product for those who spend a lot of time outdoors. I live by the phrase "Prevention is better than cure" in regards to health and well-being (although, stressing about the tiniest things on a daily basis is probably speeding up the ageing process! Hello grey hair!) but I've been really keen on SPF face creams this year, I am pushing on 30 next year and I am really starting to stress out about ageing skin.

This moisturiser is surprisingly lightweight and oil-free unlike the traditional sun screen you get. It has a moussey texture which is suitable for all skin types. It sinks in without clogging your pores and it creates a hydrated and healthy radiant look.

Cold Plasma Body - £79.50
Due to the name of it, I thought Cold Plasma was going to feel cold upon application! It is an body treatment formulated to target issues such as sagging and cellulite. Now, this is the one product out of the lot that I've liked the least.

Not because of it's lack of results, I mean, it does exactly what it promises, but I find that it smells a little funny - which I know seems very trivial considering how amazing this body treatment is. It is suppose to be odourless and doesn't contain synthetic or artificial fragrance but I have a very sensitive nose and every time I apply this cream, I can smell something in the cream that reminds me of the fish oil supplement capsules.

Perhaps it's just me, though! Everyone else raves about this product! I do, however, believe that the Cold Plasma Body is great for ladies who are older, or have given birth, or just generally those who feel concerned about stretch marks and loose skin.

Cold Plasma Body contains ingredients that improves the skin's elasticity and firms up loose crepey skin by tightening and toning. It also contains sodium hyalorunate to lock in moisture which plumps and diminishes the appearance of wrinkles. Caffeine is one of the key ingredients in Cold Plasma Body that reduces cellulite too.

No Foundation Foundation - £48.00
The no make up make up range is something that I've been intrigued about! Although nothing will stop me from wearing foundation, I often find it very uncomfortable having it on so when this came along, I couldn't wait to try it!

The No Foundation Foundation is available in two shades (fair and classic) and it contains a non-chemical SPF 30 and provides a light coverage with a translucent layer to even out skin tone. I do prefer foundations to have a matte finish so I find it a bit too dewy for me, but it leaves a nice silky sheen which lasts all day. It would be most suitable for those with dry skin.

In terms of how it feels; it is lightweight and moisturising, but it also stays quite sticky for a long time and I'm going to guess that that's due to the SPF. It takes a while for it to settle on your skin, and feels similar to a primer. I've been using the No Foundation Foundation with a anti-shine setting powder and it looks lovely and natural.

Chia Serum - £62.00
Serums have been part of my skincare regime for just over a year now, and as I am still in the phase of experimenting, I love trying different ones. Chia Serum is an oil-based serum this is the latest addition to my growing collection and a couple of drops from the pipette is enough to cover your whole face.

If you've had a late night or your skin is feeling a bit battered from a night out, Chia Serum gives it a bit of a boost transforming it from dull to glowing. One of my favourite things about this serum is that it smells like maraschino cherries! You can use this serum under or over make up, with or without moisturiser and this scientifically formulated serum is  a multi-tasker!

It's anti-ageing, instantly nourishing and turns dull, tired skin in to vibrant, bright complexion! Sometimes my moisturiser doesn't quite cut it on days where I'm having issues with my skin due to various factors such as cold weather, dehydration, stress or hormones, serums seems to help with locking in moisture.

In one of my first outfit posts in 2011, I had my hair up in milkmaid plaits but haven't really worn it this style ever since. I don't know why because it's sooo quicker than curling it and a lot easier than putting it in a topknot! I'm not sure you need a tutorial from me on how to do milkmaid plaits as there are loads on YouTube tutorials, but you basically plait them on both sides and pin it up with kirby grips! So quick and easy! If you hair is quite choppy and layered like mine, it's best to plait it whilst it's still a bit damp so that you catch all the hairs without it spiking out of the braids. Alternatively, use styling mousse or hair gel, that should do the job of taming it!

I thought the silly sunnies would suit my funky hair do but after coming home and looking at the photos, I've decided that these round-shaped sunglasses do not suit me! I've already worn them and it's too late to return to ASOS but I'm really not sure I'll wear them again, to be honest so I think I'll be selling them on depop soon! My depop username is....you've guessed it... @tempsec! Have a look and see what you think! I'm not sure I like it, as I've not had much luck on there yet. It's good if you've got a massive following on there, but otherwise it's a bit of a waste of time. I like the idea of Depop but I think eBay is better in terms of selling.

I've been loving these longer days we're having! I can get my work done until 6pm and still have enough light to go outside to get outfit photos taken! Why can't it be like this all year round! x

Life In June

fashion blogger uk, british fashion blogger

Follow Me On Instagram (username @tempsec)

I know June hasn't finished yet but I thought I'd get in there before I forget - there's only a couple more days to go, so I hope you don't mind! I've actually something much more exciting than a round-up on the 30th June so I've reserved my blogging spot for that instead (keep your eyes peeled for that on Monday, especially if you are a beauty junkie!)

So, another month is wizzing by and it's scary how fast time goes! I got a lot done this month but I ended up slacking towards the end of the June, as I took time off work to do a spot of house viewing and catch up on other life-outside-work chores - so that means I'll be working over the weekend to get up to date!

This month started off with an exciting little outfit shoot, which will be in a magazine in four weeks time. It was a really tight deadline and we didn't have a lot of time to wait around for perfect lighting so we snuck under a tree at the park and took a few snaps. I had the Enrapture Totem Styler on the wrong setting and my hair turned out curlier than I wanted which was a bit poop but never mind! No one else will notice it apart from me. I usually have it on heat settings 1-2-1 or 1-1-1 but didn't check until I curled one half of my hair!

I also had SO many new beauty products to try this past 4-6 weeks which has been fun! It's because I take better care of myself during Summer, but I don't bother with many beauty products in Winter, I'm just a hairy lizard under layers and layers of clothes! Ha! I always try to upload photos of new products on Instagram as soon as they arrive in the post or after I've bought them home from the shops - especially if they are new releases, they are always exciting! Soap&Glory Orangeasm and Benefit They're Real Push Up Liner were amongst some of them. So if you follow me on Instagram, you'll see products that I'll review in full in weeks to come, or the odd one or two exclusive product that are about to be launched. I really want to start doing two or three beauty YouTube videos a month, I think that it's a lot more useful for you guys to being able to see the product in movement and I think I'll find it easier to chat through them. I have got a channel and there are a few Outfit Of The Day videos on there but in terms of a sit-down-and-talk video, I don't know where to start but I am overthinking it. Maybe I'll start off easy by doing a monthly favourite. Shall I? Shall I not? I don't know!

It was also Father's Day in the middle of June, of course, and I decided to have the family over and make them dinner. My place is quite small and the table only seats 4 people, so I ended up doing a little buffet with the picnic/bbq food deals from M&S followed by Afternoon Tea which my sister briefly blogged about. It was chaotic but definitely worth it as everyone came away feeling happy and full!

Hope you've all had a fab month! What exciting plans have you got for the Summer?

Soap&Glory ORANGEASM™ | Review

Soap&Glory ORANGEASM products, Soap&Glory ORANGEASM review

"There's really nothing quite like an...Orangeasm"

Available from Boots

Oh, those cheeky ladies at Soap&Glory sure know how to name a product! The brand new Orangeasm collection consists of three products; body wash, body butter and super tonic fragrance spray. I love eating oranges but have never been keen on that lingering smell on your hands after peeling one, so I've often stayed away from orange-scented beauty products because of this reason.

However, the new products from Soap&Glory doesn't possess such a potent aroma. I know that the branding of this collection makes your brain think of oranges immediately and if you like your pamper products to smells very citrusy then you may be in for a little disappointment.

It's not as tart as Sugar Crush but if the strong zingy sourness is not your thing, then you'll LOVE Orangeasm which carries sweet, creamy orange scent combined with hints of other delicious zesty fruits. A softer scent than Sugar Crush, Orangeasm main notes are fresh green mandarin, sicilian lemon and sweet orange peel oils so it is still as fresh and invigorating on your skin.

Yay! Finally got to wear this pineapple print playsuit on a hot and sunny day! I've been obsessed with trend recently, and have had to restrain myself from buying too many clothes pineapple pattern on. The funny thing about fruity prints is that it always makes me crave the actual fruit, so I've definitely been getting my five a day lately because I've eating a lot of pineapple!

As soon as this playsuit arrived through the post from Rare London, I knew exactly what I wanted to wear with it! I mean, there's not much to it but I always say that it's the finishing touches that make the outfit what it is! I've accessorised with an orange bag from Fossil, a few dainty pieces of jewellery, my new favourite rose gold watch, gladiator sandals (the pair I've had for five years!) and my nails painted a hot pink shade!

My photos are not doing it any justice but the pattern on the playsuit is awesome in real life, especially close up. I feel like it doesn't look as colourful or as nice from a distance, almost like the pineapples and the colours have just meshed together to make a print that appears quite abstract. It's really cool though, I love it! I only wish the capped sleeves weren't so tight around the underarms. I normally find the sizing with clothing from Rare are bit too big by a couple of centimetres because the clothes I always pick only comes comes in a generic S/M/L sizes, which, usually, isn't a big deal. But this playsuit comes in numbered sizes (6,8,10,12) so it fits a lot better.

What do you think of this playsuit? And are you in to the fruit-print trend this Summer?

Things To Do In Newcastle: Visit The Great British Cupcakery

The Great British Cupcakery, Queen Street, Quayside, NE1

Newcastle Upon Tyne has a special spot in my heart as lots of memories were created in the Toon whilst I studied at Northumbria University. A few months ago, Travelodge contacted me to write a Weekend Guide to Newcastle, and I was only more than happy to talk Newcastle up! If you've not visited Newcastle yet, get yourselves there!

The Toon gets a bad rap sometimes due to how it's being portrayed on TV, but I personally think it's underrated. Sure, the Geordies know how to party - after all, it is one of the best student cities in the country! It is known for it's lively and buzzing night life (there's something for everybody, it's not all mad like 'Geordie Shore') but that aside, Newcastle is a lovely and wonderful little city that holds a special place in my heart, and it's always a pleasure to spend time there.

So much has changed since I lived there and although I'm familiar with it, what I've noticed is that I discover something new each time I visit. There's absolutely no denying that the Geordies are very open and welcoming, but we all know that the north east in general is very slow on keeping up with trends, and it can be very "closed in" from the rest of the country. In recent years, they have regenerated the City centre and Newcastle is looking the best it ever has!

As well as the big names in Newcastle, there are also many small businesses that deserve the biggest shout out. On one of my recent trips to Newcastle, I discovered The Great British Cupcakery, a beautiful bakehouse and parlour which is situated right underneath the iconic Tyne Bridge. It's on the corner of Queen Street, and this part of Newcastle is an absolute hidden gem. My photos don't do it justice, but it is beautifully decorated in shabby chic furniture, with subtle hints of pastel colours - this sort of thing is right up my street! We popped in at the end of the day, got ourselves a couple of hot drinks and two cupcakes, and chilled out before we made our return journey home. The Great British Cupcakery is open 7 days a week from 9:30am - 6pm (closes at 5pm on Sundays) and they serve home made cakes using the finest ingredients, sweet treats, high tea and a selection of hot and cold drinks. We ordered an Oreo chocolate cupcake, and a vanilla cupcake. Other cake selections include peanut butter cakes, billionaire shortbread, marshmallow brownies, chocolate bark, mars bar cake and SO MUCH MORE!

I've had this blogpost in my drafts for ages so eagle eye readers may notice the "Happy Easter" decoration in one of the photos, but have been waiting to publish it on a date that coincide with the Travelodge article going live!

You can now read >> what things there are to do in Newcastle << over on the Travelodge website, and if you're planning a trip there, I hope you'll find it useful! I'd definitely recommend anyone to make a stop at The Great British Cupcakery if you're in the area, followed by a nice stroll along the Quayside, before making your way over the  Millenium Bridge where you can enjoy more delicious cake and tea at the Baltic!
